Job Description

BHJ is seeking 1  consultant in medical oncology   for the HSE in Ireland in the west of Ireland.

It is a Tier 1 hospital located in Galway area.

 

 

As a consultant , you will be part of the consultant team and one of the department leaders. You will have  a leadership position and you will act with complete autonomy. Junior doctors and resident physicians will report to you. You will be on-call off-site. You will oversee all decisions made by your team and  you will report to the hospital's clinical director.

 

 

How the department works:

The team consists with oncology consultants who work collaboratively with the registrars and resident physicians to manage treatment plans for patients.

 

Benefits:

- Initial contract of 6 months to 2 years (for consultant positions only) with the possibility of extension.

- Approximate monthly net salary of up to €11,000 net/month after taxes and pension deductions ( 235-286,5K gross annual salary+ on calls)- new salary June 2026). 

- 30 working days per year of vacation + public holidays (there are 10 this year). 40 days in total.

- 7 days per year to attend conferences or further training.

- Up to €3,000 in educational funding for consultants.

- Lucrative pension plan included of approximately €1,000/month. If the doctor leaves Ireland in less than 2 years, they can claim the lump sum back into their account (maximum of approximately €24,000). Otherwise, you will receive a pension when you reach retirement age.

 

Requirements:

1. For consultants, you must be an Oncology Specialist within the European Union or, alternatively, you must have validated your training within a European Union country and must have been practicing in this specialty for at least three years from the moment it was recognized in that country.

2. Have a very good command of written and spoken English. 

3. Strong motivation to come to Ireland to work as a doctor this year.

4. Demonstrated ability to work in high-pressure situations and as part of a team.
