The Hospital in Gävle, located in eastern Sweden is looking for pathologists.

Main responsibilities and expectations

As a specialist in clinical pathology/cytology, you will work with tissue and cell sample analysis using both microscopy and digital methods in a modern histopathology laboratory at the forefront of digital diagnostic development.

Your main responsibilities will include urgent diagnostics, autopsies, specimen grossing, clinical conferences, diagnostics, and supervision of resident doctors.

You will be part of the Department of Clinical Pathology and Cytology in Gävle, within the Laboratory Medicine division of Region Gävleborg. The department is responsible for providing treating physicians with a reliable diagnostic basis for patient management and also handles the administration of the regional gynecological cervical screening program, as well as autopsy and mortuary services.

The position offers the opportunity to work in a modern and evolving environment with a strong focus on digital pathology.

Together with colleagues locally and in collaboration with other regions, you will contribute to the continuous development of the laboratory, with the goal of increasing patient safety, shortening waiting times, and improving diagnostic accuracy.

The clinic is also actively preparing for future developments in pathology and cytology, including automation, robotics, and AI. 

What’s expected of you

To have clinical experience in pathology; experience in clinical pathology is considered an advantage.

To be able to take responsibility for urgent diagnostics, autopsies, specimen grossing, clinical conferences, diagnostics, and supervision of residents.

To be calm, collegial, flexible, and cooperative.

Ability to complete the intensive Swedish language course (MediCarrera program).

Salary and conditions

No inconvenient working hours.

On-call duty is daytime only, on-site from 07:30 to 16:15, and rotates among specialists and senior consultants to handle urgent cases.
