Requirements for European dentists:

- Your diploma must be equivalent to a Dutch master's degree in dentistry (university master's degree)

- You must have your diploma validated by Nuffic (the Dutch organisation for internationalisation in education). If equivalent: You can immediately start the BIG registration procedure

- Dutch language (B2 level spoken and written) is mandatory for BIG registration.

Many employers offer language courses to help you achieve this level. Some practices even reimburse the full cost of this course

- To work as a dentist in the Netherlands, you must be registered in the BIG register. (Professions in Individual Healthcare). This is mandatory and guarantees that you comply with Dutch professional standards. Without BIG registration, you can start working in a practice immediately, but you will always work under the supervision of an experienced colleague.

Terms of employment for dentists in the Netherlands:

- Starting salary    €3,000–€4,500 gross per month (depending on experience and region).

- Working hours    Average of 32–40 hours per week

- Pension is mandatory through the Pension Fund for Health and Social Welfare (PFZW).

- Employers often offer a budget for courses and conferences (on average €1,000–€2,000 per year)

- Bonus schemes    Some practices offer profit sharing or bonuses for good performance.

Travel allowance Often reimbursed (e.g. £0.19–£0.23 per km).
