The role of the pharmacist in Sweden
Pharmacists in Sweden have a broader and more clinically focused role than in many other European countries. At Apoteket AB, pharmacists do much more than dispense medication at the counter. They work in community pharmacies, hospitals and e-pharmacies, providing pharmaceutical advice, medication reviews, quality assurance and digital healthcare services.

Pharmacists can perform structured medication reviews to ensure correct dosing, identify interactions and optimise treatment. Certified geriatric pharmacists may also conduct these reviews in care homes, hospitals and GP practices, or remotely via phone and video consultations.

Apoteket also provides healthcare-related services such as clinical trials and quality audits for healthcare units. Sweden’s growing e-pharmacy sector offers a modern working environment, flexible hours and new ways
for pharmacists to contribute their expertise.

Main responsibilities and expectations
Comprehensive review of incoming orders containing pharmaceuticals

Investigation and problem-solving related to customer orders

Providing pharmaceutical advice

Actively contributing to team development by sharing knowledge and
experience
